What does Somerton need?

Part of the discussion at our AGM centred around the services and facilities that, in Somerton, would make a real difference to those living with dementia, and perhaps other disabilities. There are a couple already on the table for our next Steering Committee on 5th November, but other suggestions are welcome. If you have an idea, or even a project already running, that could be expanded and adapted to suit a wider and more inclusive audience, let us know at somertondaa@gmail.com, or use the Contact form alongside.
Already in discussion are the possibility of a regular 'Memory Cafe' and a group to support Carers that can meet at a time and place where there would be safe independent support and activities for the people for whom they normally provide care.
We are also looking to develop a directory of services and facilities in the area, so please feed in your suggestions of what might usefully be included.

Later Life Care

Which? - the Consumer Association - has revised and updated its web site with a new, comprehensive section on 'Later Life Care'. There is a lot of good content, explained simply and in easy-to-understand bite-sized chunks, including the latest information on the cost of care, benefits and dementia.
To add to it, they are looking to create some video content with people sharing their experiences of care - either as someone who receives it or from a family member or friend who has arranged it for a loved one. As they want to go live on 31 October they are keen to speak to people soon if possible. If you have a story to tell, contact SADAA, using the form on the right, and we'll pass your information on.
